2 Corinthians 10:4 reads: “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they are weapons with divine power to destroy strongholds.”

Weather we care to admit it or not, many of us who proclaim Jesus as Lord of our lives, live no differently than any other non-Christian in our world today. The freedom and the power of God that should be manifest in our lives is not evident and we have little to no influence on our family, friends, and the world we live in. This is generally caused by what the Bible refers to as a “Stronghold.” These are spiritual influences that keep us from being free to reflect Jesus Christ in our daily lives. In some cases, these influences are solely spiritual(coming from evil spirits who operate in this world), sometimes generational (inherited and passed down from our forefathers), and other times mental (operating subconsciously in our mind). Whatever the case, these strongholds hold us captive and cause us to live life in ways that are not representative of true Christianity.

Some examples of strongholds are: Fear, Pride, Insecurity, Idolatry, Bitterness, Control, Rebellion; these strongholds cause Christians to do things that they should not, would not, and frankly don’t want to do. However, strongholds have influence that seemingly have us locked into behaviors that we can’t control. Victory over strongholds only will come when we: Renounce or Cast down the stronghold in Jesus name, in other words, we admit our weakness and put ourselves at the mercy of Jesus Christ. In prayer we must come to the foot of the Cross of Christ and admit our weakness. Then constantly, regularly and without ceasing call on the name of Jesus in your weak moments and He will consistently keep you free from strongholds.  That’s the way to Victory over strongholds.
